  • Arrival Experience: Arrived in the afternoon and the hotel valet area was busy. Went to lobby on the 79th floor and a staff member offered to take my luggage. The check in area was busier to a concierge staff offered to assist with my check in, as the concierge was a small seating area adjacent to the front desk. Check in staff was very friendly and gave me the keys and a Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts benefits letter. He explained that I had been upgraded to a premier room with a city view. I was given a small bag with their signature coffee set inside as a welcome gift.

  • Room Move: After entering the room, luggage was delivered. I noticed the room faced the east side of Seoul, and because the Lotte World Tower was located on the Southeast side of Seoul, I was not able to see as much of the city as I wanted to. Because of this, I went back down to the front desk to ask for a room which was facing the West side so I could see more city features such as the Han River, Gangnam skyline, and Namsan Tower. The front desk was very accommodating and instantly offered me other room facing the west side. Upon checking into the new room, there was a small chocolate amenity on the table. However, the bellman assisting me with my luggage apologized and explained that it was intended for another guest in a different room, before removing it. In my opinion, this was a missed service opportunity in two respects. First, the amenity should have been removed before I entered the room. However, mistakes do happen, and how staff respond to unexpected situations is an important aspect of luxury hospitality. Given how small the amenity was, I believe the better approach would have been to leave it in the room or arrange a replacement amenity, rather than make the guest feel that something had been mistakenly given to them and then taken away. If it had been a more elaborate pre-arrival amenity setup, I would certainly have understood its removal, but a small chocolate could presumably have been easily replaced. This was a very minor hiccup that did not affect my overall experience, but it was a missed opportunity which highlighted a small operational mistake.

Dinning: 10/10

  • I was able to have dinner at Stay, a modern French restaurant on the 81st floor of the hotel. With the restaurant having a Michelin star from 2019 to 2021, I was looking forward to a memorable experience. I was seated with an amazing view of the city, offered a hot towel, and given a small chair to put my bag on beside the table. After a small amuse bouche to start, I had a scallop mousse which was great and had an amazing texture. The I had the lobster pasta, which came with an incredible presentation. The server did a flambe with the lobster table side before setting it on the pasta. They had a dessert bar where the only I ate from was the macarons. The overall service was great, as servers constantly came to check in and offer assistance.

  • Breakfast was served at Stay as well, and was in a semi-buffet format, offering a variety of Western and Korean selections alongside made-to-order dishes you could order separately.

Amenities: 4/5

  • The hotel has an indoor swimming pool on the 85th floor, featuring a modern design and a spacious, open layout that creates a contemporary and luxurious atmosphere. The pool area feels bright and airy, with expansive windows that allow guests to enjoy views of Seoul while swimming. The overall design is sleek and minimalist, consistent with the hotel's upscale aesthetic. However, the pool was crowded during my visit which made the space feel less exclusive than one might expect from a luxury hotel of this caliber. Despite the number of guests, the pool area remains visually appealing, and its elevated location adds to the experience.

Ambiance: 8/10

  • The ambiance of Signiel Seoul feels grand, modern, and upscale, with an elegant color palette that complements the hotel’s luxurious design. The lobby is spacious and open, with plenty of seating, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. One of the highlights is the natural sunlight that beams into the lobby during the afternoon, adding warmth to the space and creating a particularly appealing visual effect. While the overall design feels sophisticated and luxurious, it lacks the intimate, residential feel that makes some luxury hotels stand out, and the space still feels distinctly like a hotel lobby. One design element that feels particularly out of place is the text belt strip running along the wall, which draws more attention than it should and contrasts with the otherwise refined aesthetic. Its purpose is unclear, and its prominent appearance detracts somewhat from the overall ambiance.
