Arrival Experience: Valet area was quite busy when I arrived a little after noon. Check in took place in the lobby on the 24th floor of the hotel. Was greeted by the front desk host who confirmed my dates of stay. Warm tea was offered by another staff member at the front desk during check in. Host did a great job of confirming my room preferences and dietary restrictions which were noted on my profile. The extra items which I normally need to call for were automatically delivered after I entered my room without me needing to call for them. Anticipatory service is key to providing a personalized experience so the front desk agent certainly delivered on this aspect of luxury hospitality. In addition, I was upgraded to a high floor room with city view facing Gangnam, and was allowed to check in way before the official check in time. This was one of the best check in experiences I have ever had.
Housekeeping: Standard service and turndown were provided daily. They noticed I drank a lot of the bottled waters so they made sure to stock up more and more every time they did turndown. Once again, the staff delivered on anticipatory service. On my second to last day, I needed last minute laundry service. The staff offered me expedited service without charge and assured me my items would be ready before checkout.
Concierge: I informed concierge that I wanted to do a DMZ tour, and was given a booklet of options which they verbally went though with me. I informed them of the day and was booked instantly. I was greeted by name by the lady who assisted on every encounter for the rest of my stay and she always asked how I was doing and if I needed any assistance. During the DMZ tour, although it was a group tour, the tour guide confirmed the hotel I was staying at on the tour and a private car was sent to the DMZ (1.5 hours from Seoul) to take me directly to the hotel so I did not need to take the tour bus and be dropped of in a central meeting area of Seoul.
Dining: 7/10
Had dinner at The Lounge, which was located behind the lobby and served afternoon tea and dinner. It took a while to get seated, and service pace was slower due to it being more of a relaxing and casual setting instead of full fine dinning restaurant. The environment was warm and inviting, and the space featured a nice view of the city. However, the experience fell short in both food and service. The food was not bad, but underwhelming for a luxury hotel. What was worse was that a server did not come by to check on me, and I had to flag the staff down for water to be refilled. Although it was a more casual experience, you should never need to flag down multiple staff members when dinning in a luxury hotel. The negative dinning experience is the only reason I did not give the hotel a perfect service score.
Amenities: 4/5
Park Hyatt Seoul was the indoor swimming pool, which features floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. The pool area made use of the views, creating a relaxing space to unwind during the day. The pool is the only part of the hotel I saw some wear and tear, and there was some rust at the bottom flooring. Also, there are only a couple chairs in the pool area, but it was never busy so did not present any problem.
The hotel also offers a fitness studio, sauna, and spa through its Park Club facilities, providing a good range of wellness options. The club area is relaxing and inviting, featuring some tables where you can lounge and have a great view of the Gangnam skyline.
Ambiance: 10/10
Park Hyatt Seoul has one of my favorite hotel designs. The ground lobby is extremely minimalist ground lobby and features mostly glass with the street entrance having stone where the hotel signage is located. There are 2 sets of elevators, one which takes you straight up to the guest lobby which is on the 24th floor, and a second set of elevators which takes you to guest rooms. The elevators have a fancy led lighting feature, as the lighting is purple on the ground level, and changes color as you go up turning yellow at the top lobby level. The lobby is small, but I feel that this creates a more intimate feeling and staff always greet you as soon as you get off the elevator.
This hotel has my favorite room hallway design of any hotels I have been in. The hallways have extremely modern and warm lighting, and the space on the wall between room doors have small artifacts displayed. You can barely notice the room doors as they are integrated so well into the design and walls.
